Britain's Iraq war is ending, with control of Basra being handed over to the Iraqis within the fortnight and most of the troops withdrawn.
Defence Secretary Des Browne told Reuters,
Things are getting better here for a very obvious reason. The Iraqis themselves are much more capable of taking responsibility for their own security.
Some experts, however, say that Britain has lost the war, that Basra is now a place where Shi'ite militiamen administer justice, spray-painting walls with threats of killing women who do not veil their faces in public.
